Transparency international (https://www.transparency.org/en/) is a preeminent organization leading the fight against corruption.

Their website is an information goldmine for anyone interested in corruption related matters.

The “Corruption Perception Index" (https://www.transparency.org/en/cpi/2020) is an important product of their intensive research activities and provides important insights for auditors and corruption investigators.

It allows investigators to get an idea of the state of corruption worldwide and provides nations practical recommendations to curb corruption.

The list ranks countries from least to most corrupt.

The least corrupt countries in 2020 according to the list were Denmark and New Zealand (shared 1st place) followed by Finland, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland (shared 3rd place).

At the bottom of the list we find countries such as Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, North Korea, Libya, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan, Venezuela, Yemen, Syria, Somalia and South Sudan.

With this knowledge, auditors and investigators have a way to view international dealings or transactions in a corruption perspective. It goes without saying that this does not mean that the list should be blindly followed and countries with a high score should be ignored. Corruption unfortunately exist everywhere…
